In the mid-1950’s, Max and Merrill Stone, founders of Stone Brothers & Associates, built three model homes on Robinhood Drive starting at the corner of Tamworth Way and moving east toward El Dorado Street. These homes were the beginning of Sherwood Manor and the first homes built in Sherwood Manor’s Unit 1. When the homes were sold, three more were built on Tamworth Way, on the east side going north, and so Sherwood Manor grew.
On May 28, 1956 the Sherwood Manor Homes Association Articles of Incorporation were signed. The articles were officially filed with the California Secretary of State on June 7, 1956, and the Sherwood Manor Homes Association was born. Sherwood Manor Homes was built in phases, starting with Unit 1 and ending with Unit 9 at Claremont Court on the north east end of Sherwood Mall. Each of the 9 units was given 2 positions on the Sherwood Manor Board of Directors.
At its completion, there were 521 homes in Sherwood Manor. Seventy years later, Sherwood Manor continues to be one of the most stable and desirable neighborhoods in central Stockton.
